PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This 11-storey extension to a 1970s office tower creates a series of luxury apartments overlooking the River Thames. The redevelopment has enabled the site to increase the net area by over 50%, while simultaneously improving ground level connectivity.
The extended core was slip-formed off the top of the original core, and the new floor plates cantilevered from the new core, avoiding load on the perimeter columns and minimising work to the tower’s foundations.
Judge's comment: The judges admired how the engineers have released significant value to the client through the addition of eleven stories to this tower while making major modifications to the existing stability cores with only minimal strengthening and temporary works. The engineers successfully worked with the contractors to develop sequences and new methodologies that allowed parallel working from basement extension to tower extension.
